After watching the IPL 2020 pretty obsessively (while recovering from some nasty buglets) and always supporting the underdog, Big Friendly and I finally chose a team to support who totally cleaned up last night. It is so good to have backed a team who won. It does help that the Mumbai Indians finally got their mojo back, with Sachin Tendulkar playing his first match and captaining the side in front of a home crowd in Mumbai. I think this gave the team huge shots of confidence (even though acting captain Shaun Pollock did a sterling job when he had to take over from Harbhajan Singh).
Last night’s game against the Chennai SuperKings was a slam dunk affair. Polly was fantastic, economical and accurate with his bowling, the Mumbai Indians fielded well, but it was Sanath Jayasuriya, who blasted his way to 114 not out with eleven sixes, that opened the floodgates. I don’t know why the game in Bangalore was called off, making the Mumbai Indians the only team to be short a game on the log, but this huge win should help boost their chances for a place in the semi-finals.
