I went with Alfred Rietmann, The New Writing Programme’s production manager, to Makro during our lunch break to get ‘the tent’. I had seen the perfect one in the Makro catalogue. What sold me on it was the tiny print that said “5 second set up”. I actually didn’t believe it until I saw the tent in its bag. It looked just like a giant car windscreen shade. You know, the ones you squeeze into a small flat disc, with practice.
And you better believe it. Not even 5 seconds to unfold itself, if you don’t count taking it out of its special bag. So its standing in our stinking hot rehearsal room in all its glory. We haven’t figured out how to squeeze it back up yet. But it’s marvelous.
You have to come and see it.
