TransAmerica

So, I didn’t get to see a single live show last week. Not through lack of trying though. At least I was in one and that was a goodie. So Big Firendly and I decided to do a bit of a DVD catch up on the weekend. There are so many flieks we missed on circuit. Pirates of the Carribean – Dead Man’s Chest was the first. I understand why everybody said it must be seen on the big screen. There is no story to distract you from the special effects. In fact, there are no characters to distract you either. So, a very long special effect hangs onto Johnny Depp’s pirate. Naaa. Already can’t remember it.

Number 2 was TransAmerica. Now this was a totally different kettle of Fish. Awesome performances, particularly by Felicity Huffman, make this a gem. The story almost manages to remain unsentimental (except for the end) and I was really moved by it. It was a goodie that I’m glad I got to see.

Any good ideas for shows I should get to see this week? I’m going to see Duncan Farenheit and The Lank Tired Okes on Sunday 18 Feb at the Kalk Bay Theatre, but that’s a long way away.

    4 movies to see ~
    [1] “In America” – gentle moving piece about trying to make it in the land of the brave & the free;
    [2] “The Tiger & the Snow” [or the other way around ??] – film by the guy who made “Life is beautiful”; gently funny, requires concentration to follow time line but good for the soul;
    [3] “Lucky Number Slevin” – violent [very], dark, “Usual Suspect-ish”, clever and a wonderful cast [Josh Hartnett, Morgan Freeman, Ben Kingsley & Bruce Willis;
    [4] “Imagine You and Me” – fluff [stop in the name of !!] but good fluff; remember all those movies where boy about to marry girl and boy/girl sees another girl/boy across a crowded room and realises he/she is making the mistake of a lifetime and how do they resolve that. Well this is the same except girl sees girl. Fun.

    ‘In America’ is one of my all time favourites.
