Big Friendly and I went last night. We were 2 of 10 in the audience. The first half was performed in torch and candle-light during an Eskom load shed. Sheer performer hell handled by Graham with grace, charm and a little bitter irony that supported his masterful performance well.
WTF is everybody? How can a performer of this caliber and stature have this little support? How can a show get totally brilliant reviews and no audiences?
The show is a one man tour de force, in rhyming verse, telling the story of a gambling charmer Billy Markham and his endless deals with the devil. It is charming, crude, raunchy, musical, powerful, funny and clever. All 10 of us loved the show.
I just don’t get it. I just don’t get it. There is this week and next to catch this brilliant show. If you don’t believe me that it’s good, read Zane Henry‘s review. Don’t be a Capetonian and wake up in March shocked that you missed it.
